Resilience Cafe

Frederick Douglass was born February, 1818 in Talbot to slavery he was frequently was sold to many different slave owners and one day, he was traded to a sailor and decided to finally escape. He escaped by boarding a train to Maryland and then sneaking on steamboat all the way to New York. There He met William Lloyd garrison. He was convinced by Mr. Garrison to become an abolitionist. He created many speeches to liberate the slaves of the U.S. One of his more famous speeches was the “What to the slave is the fourth of July?” The speech explained that why do you want slaves to celebrate freedom and independence of this country if we the slaves have none.
Francisco Jimenez was born in Tlaquepaque, México. He was a Mexican boy whose family wanted to move to America to find a better life. They could not find a way to pass legally so his family snuck through to America. For several years He had to work in a field in California always worrying if the border police would catch them. Then he dreamed of going to school and so he followed his dream and went to school. Life became normal for him until he hit 8TH grade. The border police came and took Francisco back to México, he was devastated knowing that he could no longer get a good education but then shortly afterwards his family talked with the government and became legal and Francisco lived once again in California. Now he writes books like the circuit, Breaking through, and La Mariposa to explain how horrible and how hard it is it is to be an illegal immigrant. He is now currently a Professor in the Department of Modern Languages and Literatures.
I was born October 3, 1994 in San Diego, CA. My parents wanted to save money so they built a house in Tijuana and we lived there for about 3 years then my parents finally decided to move back to America. We bought a really big house next to H Street and we stayed there in that house for about 5 years. Then my parents could not afford the house anymore so they wanted to move into a new house but then the house was not finished building and we already had sold our old house so we were forced to move into our grandma’s old house. We stayed there for about 2 years and we couldn’t wait anymore so we bought another house around the same area. We stayed there for about 2 years and by that time I was in 6th grade. Then our house was finally finished and we moved there and now we have been living in this house for about 2 years now.

Trial peformance

My strengths are that when I get up I don't get nervous. My challenges were that I only went up once and i did not play a significant role in prosecution.

Before the trial I did not communicate with my group very much but really just listened to my groups conversation. So i really didn't interact so I really wasn't a significant part.

This information means I sometimes don't follow with my groups and I sometimes don't know whats going on when something happens.

So when I work in groups I sometimes don't get along with their idea's. So I don't think I deserve a great grade but i deserve a decent grade like a B.

Publishing Project

Title:Black lotus

Author:Alexander Arce

Genre:Fantasy/Action

Pages:3

Mentor Texts: I have watched several movies but one caught my eye. It was strange and had to do with a plant of life and death but then I thought, what if I twisted the movie a lot and
made my story about that and so then day in and day out I thought how I would change the movie so it could be my own original book. Then it came to me, A evil flower that gave you plant powers. I thought of a storyline that could revolve around that concept then it hit me. An evil guy who uses that power for his own desire of revenge. That's how i came up with this story.

Audience: It was really meant for anybody who wanted to keep it or for my class library.

Writing Process: During my writing i never put many paragraphs so sometimes i would have a paragraph that's about 9-10 sentences and it was kinda short because i made everything pass way too fast.

Publishing Process: I just did it simple I just printed the pages and stapled them together.

Featurecast

Project Purpose:
To understand the difference between Cause/Effect Relationships and Correlations. To understand how and why major events in history are connected and intertwined (think yarn activity!). To research a major event from U.S. history in order to understand why it is significant and how it relates to other major events. To understand features of a feature article and podcast and to be able to create a feature article or podcast about your major event in history.

Project Requirements:
To present the 5W's of your major event to the class. To write/peer edit/revise a feature article or podcast. To have at least three drafts in your Writing Portfolio. To present a polished version of your feature article or podcast on Media Night, as well as posting it online to our Team Feature cast from the Past web page.

Specific Concepts Learned:
I learned that the red baron never really started off as an airplane pilot but as a cavalry scout and about cause/effect relationships(if one time period had never happened the another one wouldn't of happened either) and correlations(Two completely different time periods that are very similar).

Challenges:
I had a hard time finding the right information about the red baron so it took me a few days to begin writing my script and also another challenge that I faced was I'm not very good at spelling and grammar so I had to take a whole class period correcting spelling and grammar mistakes.

Real-World Significance:
This could really help if you wanted to become a historian or if anyone wanted a job in making podcasts or anything similar then this would help them.

Querencia Clipboard

My querencia is being in my bed. I like being in my nice warm covers and lying on my comfy mattress. Being on my bed recovers my energy so when I get up I’m ready for anything; and if I get home from a long day of work, I just hop into my bed and take a nice nap. I also use my time on my bed to think about anything like my favorite songs, movies, TV shows, and hypothetical questions.

My bed controls my emotions. The more sleep I get, the happier I feel when I wake up; but the less I sleep, the more I feel cranky/depressed. I always get enough sleep so I’m usually not cranky or depressed, but may be a little sleepy. When I sleep my whole body relaxes except my mind. Whenever I try to sleep, my mind goes wild and crazy and starts plopping random things in my head and the only thing that can calm it down is opening my eyes. But even with my cons, I can always enjoy a nice relaxing time in my bed.
